Really: life is mostly ordinary. I know, I know. Blah.
“Yeah,” you say, “but this other guy promised me fucking extraordinary!!”
Instead, I propose: all the world in a grain of sand.
To see a World in a Grain of Sand And a Heaven in a Wild Flower, Hold Infinity in the palm of your hand And Eternity in an hour.
William Blake
Bring your yearning for glory, your gut-level impulse to strive for the grand, to the teeny weeny. The inches, the simple repetitions that are easy.
Those reps accumulate.
If you’re aching for the sacred you may be able to find it in the ordinary — because, what else is there? I mean, there are some adventures, but you return home. There are special moments that give you a glimpse, but they can become perpetual escape hatches. Are you looking for an escape hatch, really? Or a true glory.
Go teeny weeny.
Bring your passion to the baby steps.
Consistently.
At stuff you like.
Find a way to share with other people.
Re-invest in your idealism.
Stretch a little bit.
Focus on the good, the true, and the small, with iridescent fire.
